Prayer

A Prayer for Strength

There are seasons that just take more out of you than you have to give, a hard season at work, a caregiving role that never lets up, grief that keeps returning in waves. This prayer is for when you're running on empty and pretending isn't working anymore. It doesn't promise the hard thing will get easier tomorrow. It asks for the strength to keep going today.

The Prayer

God, I'm tired in a way I can't just sleep off. I've been carrying this for a while now, and my strength is running low. I'm not asking you to remove what's hard, I'm asking you to meet me in the middle of it with strength that isn't mine. Where I've been trying to do this alone, help me lean on you instead. Give me what I need for today, not the whole road ahead, just today. Steady my hands for the next task in front of me. Remind me that needing help isn't weakness, it's how you made me. Renew me, even in small ways I might not notice right away. Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you're exhausted in a way sleep doesn't fix, when you're carrying more than feels sustainable, or when you're facing something that requires more courage than you feel like you have. It's for the middle of a hard season, not just the beginning, when the adrenaline has worn off and you still have to keep showing up.

A Verse to Hold On To

Isaiah 40:31

but those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

Make It Your Own

Pray this in the middle of the hard day, not just at the start or end of it. Name the specific thing draining you, whether that's a person, a job, an illness, or a season of grief. Let the image of eagles renewing their strength remind you that rest and reliance on God aren't detours from strength, they're the source of it.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

Why doesn't God just remove the hard thing instead of giving strength to endure it?

That's one of the oldest questions in faith, and honest people wrestle with it their whole lives. Scripture doesn't promise an easy road, it promises presence on the hard one. Many people find that the strength they're given in difficulty becomes part of a story God uses later, even when they can't see how yet.

What if I pray for strength and still feel weak?

Feeling weak and being carried aren't opposites, they often happen at the same time. Strength from God doesn't always feel like sudden power, sometimes it looks like getting through one more hour, one more conversation, one more day. Keep praying, and don't measure it only by how you feel in the moment.

Is it okay to ask God for strength for something that feels small compared to other people's problems?

Yes. There's no minimum size for a real struggle. What feels manageable to one person can be genuinely exhausting for another. God isn't rationing attention, bring whatever is actually wearing you down, no comparison required, and trust that it matters simply because it matters to you.
